A Christian's Guide to Evolution

Genesis 1 is teaching theology, not creation science.

Evolution and the Human Soul

I saw a great video today, the testimony of a neurosurgeon’s conversion to Christianity. It is one of two testimonies I saw this morning, the other one being even better than this one, but this one allows me to bridge to evolution.

Again, as I will in all my articles, I remind you that I am a creationist, not in the sense that I deny evolution, but in the sense that I believe there is one God who created everything through his Son, came from the realm of the spirit to be born as Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, died, rose from the dead, and reigns forever over the universe.

During the neurologist’s testimony, he questioned the science behind evolution. He said that even before he was a Christian, the science did not seem very good to him.

I am always confused by statements like this. Does he not know, or does he deny, that there was a time when humans did not exist on the earth, but Homo habilis, a creature smaller in stature and brain-size, did? Does he not know, or does he deny, that there was a time when no apes existed, but many other mammals did? Does he not know, or does he deny, that there was a time when no mammals existed, but reptiles, amphibians, fish, and crustaceans did?

This is evolution. Darwinism, the theory that mutations in DNA that improved survival or reproduction fueled change over time, is currently the most accepted theory to explain evolution, but there is absolute scientific consensus that the fossil record shows a progression from only soft-bodied organisms, to shelled organisms, to organisms with a backbone such as fish, to amphibians, to reptiles, to mammals.

We can refute Darwin’s theory, and the improvements made on it over the last 166 years, but we still have to deal with the transformation of life on earth from only microbes to microbes, mammals and everything in between. This is the place where those who deny evolution always, and without exception, fail. In our current understanding, a slow but gigantic transformation in DNA is the only evidence-based explanation of what we find when we dig in the earth.

It constantly amazes me how people can make video after video against evolution without addressing the elephants, and all the life that existed before elephants existed, in the room.
